Buffalo Horn Carvings
This piece is hand carved from horn in Laos, which is a small country north of Thailand. The horn is from a water buffalo, which is the tribe's main meat source.
The horns were thrown away in the past, but now through a self-help program, artists are using the horns to make beautiful carvings, which help to support the community. The horns are taken only from animals that are raised for food.
