Burled Wood
This is a piece of burled wood hand carved in Bali. The bursting growth is how a tree branch or root responds to an attack by a parasite. Villagers harvest the dead wood pieces. Each one is different, and the type of animal or figure, which may be freed from the wood, is dependent on its shape. Minor cracks and knots are normal in this type of wood.
